Paint buyers, specifiers, and retailers, take note! You'll now find "X-Green" products on MPI's Approved Products Lists. Paints ranked as "X-Green" meet the most stringent environmental standard in the world and offer:
- the performance/durability required of the corresponding MPI paint category;
- VOC under 50 g/l;
- reduced or zero quantities of various undesirable chemical components; and
- certification of VOC emissions (i.e. indoor air quality) to comply with CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools) requirements
We've made Extreme Green paints easy to find by creating dedicated new categories designated by the appropriate MPI number, followed by "X-Green." Click on the categories below to see the first X-Green products, and this list will grow substantially in the days and weeks to come.

While MPI doesn't publish the performance ratings for each paint found on our Approved Products Lists, every product has met minimum performance requirements specific to that particular category, based on many, MANY tests (ASTM and other) that evaluate a long list of properties (hiding power, burnish resistance, cleansability, scrubbability, etc etc etc). These requirements/tests are published in the individual MPI Paint Standard for each number.
For example, the standard for MPI#44 'conventional' interior latex Gloss Level 2 requires 1500 scrubs without film breakthrough and max 25% difference in 85 degree sheen; and 50 burnish cycles with less than 30% change in 85-degree sheen. By contrast, paints that pass MPI #138 'High Performance' interior latex withstand 3000 scrub cycles; 50 burnish cycles with less than 15% change in 85-degree sheen; and also undergo stringent stain resistance testing with coffee, wine, mustard, etc. MPI Paint Standards generally sell for $20 each; click here to purchase. |
