MPI Training

MPI offers a number of respected and well-used publications on painting specifications and failure recognition.

The MPI publications (manuals) are available online or in the printed version. MPI associates (organizations) also offer these publications at special prices in the printed version (i.e. PDCA, PDRA, SSPC, etc.) Click on the covers or titles below for more details on these products. An online product demonstration is also available on the ‘HOME’ page.

One of the major benefits of the online version of the MPI Manuals is that the version viewed is always the most current.

Included are over 2000 descriptions, definitions for coating properties, conditions, and preparation steps, painting techniques, and decorative terms. An essential handbook for the professional and an excellent learning guide for new painters. (See an excerpt in our Online Glossary.)

Maintenance Repainting Identifiers Booklet

This handy MPI researched booklet uses pictures to help identify defects and failures in painting projects. Professionals and novices will benefit from the descriptions of common failures and the probable causes. A quick read can help anybody prevent costly mistakes.

MPI Detailed Performance Standards

The MPI Performance Standards are performance-based standards (applicable tests) that were developed for paint & coating products to be MPI approved and listed in the MPI Approved Products List (APL).

There are 3 types of MPI performance standards – Intended Use, Detailed Performance and Evaluated Performance Standards.

The criteria for MPI product listing approval are periodically modified to require universal performance-based standards developed by MPI (in conjunction with paint manufacturers and paint technologists) to be a benchmark, so that future MPI product approval continues to reflect only quality premium products in industry-defined categories.

The Detailed Performance Standards are available individually by MPI Product Number or in a series. The intended use standards are available by series only.
